My Unusual Apprenticeship

My Unusual Apprenticeship

I finished my GCSE’s in June 2014. I did go to six form but it wasn’t right for me so I left in December 2014. I thought I would benefit more by working and studying.

I was starting to give up on the apprenticeship side of things as I had been looking for ages and had several interviews. I applied for all types of apprenticeships on the national apprenticeship site and I emailed all companies locally. I was looking at dentistry, childcare, business, law, sales, pretty much anything, even though my passion lies with law.

I then had an interview with a solicitor firm, one of many. I thought it went well but didn’t get my hopes up as I felt quite a large number of interviews went well. I got a phone call the next day from the solicitor firm stating I got the job. I was jumping and screaming in joy.  Finally my hard work had got me somewhere. I did it all on my own, with no help or support from anyone. I was so proud. I couldn’t believe I’d got it.

The week finally came and I began my role as a conveyancing assistant apprentice, I was so nervous. My first week at work was a shock as I was doing so many new things and was learning so much but I absolutely loved it. All my employers were so helpful and supportive.

People look at me and think I am mad but it is so interesting and fun. Also I love to be able to be part of such an important complex process and help people buy, sell and lease their properties. I write letters to solicitors, clients and estate agents. I write mortgage reports, care letters, I do searches for houses and more.

This is great and the light of my day. It is rubbish pay but it’s better than lying in bed doing nothing. It helps me get out of bed, make friends, develop skills and earn a bit of extra money. I am hoping to complete my level 2 business administration apprenticeship and progress to the level 3 and then train to be a conveyancer. This is great as I have always had a passion for law and finally I now have made the first step to the best career ever.
